About Hershey Art Images

Hershey Art Images Susan Hershey is a longtime lover of travel and landscape photography.

"A few years back, I returned to the UK (to visit old friends who I consider my second family) and to travel to Scotland which included many destinations in which my photography would take the front seat. It was the first time that I carefully orchestrated destinations with the time of day, so that it would work for what I wanted to shoot and the feeling I would hope to portray. At the time, I had a "beginner" digital camera and although that camera has since been replaced, looking back, it served me well, and gave me a good start for what was to come. Since that trip to Scotland in 2015, my love and devotion to photography has multiplied ten fold. I live it. I breathe it. I dream it. And, it generally consumes all of my days off, whether it's behind the camera or behind the computer.

In 2017, my travels throughout Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Rhode Island and Massachusetts made for my best year of New England travel ever. I saw and photographed more lighthouses than I could ever have imagined, and my love of night photography, and photographing the Milky Way really took off. Ask me about the summer night I spent in a field in Vermont (just me and the fireflies) under the stars, shooting the beautiful Milky Way. This same year, my business via my website and online sales increased, I added a few more locations carrying my photo cards, matted enlargements, and calendars, although most of my retail sales are at two locations: "Paper Moon" in Newburyport, Massachusetts carries a wide variety of my photo cards and enlargements and "Celtic Crossing" in Portsmouth, New Hampshire sells my Scotland images on my photo cards.

Also in 2017, I was accepted as a juried member to the New Hampshire Art Association, which has their main gallery in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, called the Lincoln Levy Gallery on State Street. During 2018, I had a "Body of Work" exhibit on display there for the month of May and sold five out of 11 pieces displayed.

In 2018, I had a wonderful trip to Utah, which began with my family (most of whom live in Southern California) and ended with a trip out to the amazing area of Moab, Utah where I visited Arches and Canyonlands National Parks, and Dead Horse Point State Park. Only two days wasn't nearly enough!

In April, I began my love affair shooting birds, specifically the Snowy Owls who come to the Seacoast in the winter. As it turned out, I guess they didn't want to leave, as we saw and photographed them into early June. I also followed a bald eagle family "Ragnar & Lagertha" (as they been locally named) as they raised (and fledged) their single offspring "Stella." I'll look forward to seeing them return to their nest this winter. In the spring of 2019, I'll be teaching a beginner bird photography, one-day class, through "Blue Hour Photo." Look for more details on this after the first of the year.

In June, I spent a week in Maine and New Hampshire, which included shooting the Milky Way at Reid State Park (a nighttime fishing license helps...interesting story) and went on, later in the week, to shoot the beautiful lupines that bloom throughout Northern New England in mid June.

In October, I spent the peak of leaf-peeping season back up in Acadia, and hit the turning leaves just right. A day trip from there, north two hours to Lubec, Maine, to photograph the iconic, barber pole-striped lighthouse "West Quoddy Light" didn't disappoint.

Stay tuned for more updates on my travels and thank you for visiting my website!"
