Getting this shot could have put me in a really bad situation, but I got lucky.
The walk out to this lighthouse took me MUCH longer than I'd anticipated. Leaving in what I thought was plenty of time to arrive before sunset, I hadn't figured the distance accurately, nor the time it would take. It was early December and although not a very cold day, I was still in my long, down jacket and some lightweight, snow boots, which were comfortable for walking, but not highly insulated. After walking for more than an hour, and with the lighthouse in sight, I could see that the time it would take to walk around the marsh would leave me very short on time, as the sunset was fast approaching. Seeing that I darted across the marsh, knowing that if my boots got wet in the little streams and gullies I needed to cross, I'd be in trouble. I am a long-time lover of travel & landscape photography. I had a film camera when I was a kid and bought my first SLR camera, which I remember was a Nikon 2020. Once that was in hand, I took a class and remember walking around Balboa Park in San Diego, wondering at all it would do. Since then, my love of photography never died, but it (like many other things in life) went up and down in importance.
